Once a Henro ... always a Henro
What is a Henro?
A Henro is a pilgrim, Or more precisely, a Henro is a pilgrim specific to Shikoku 88 the world's longest circular pilgrimage. It includes 88 official temples on Japan's 4th largest island where the Buddhist priest Kukai (Kobo Daishi) trained & taught in the 9th Century.

When walked, the entire journey is over 1,300km long ... plenty of time to enjoy the abundant natural surroundings, mix with the local people, and reflect on life & love.
A Henro's motivation
may include:
-
Religious devotion or philosophical exploration
-
Honouring the memory of those who have passed
-
To spend time alone in reflection
-
To escape the relative atrophy of 'everyday life'
-
As a healing journey
