Sternberg’s Triangular Theory of Love (Sternberg, 1988) indicates that our relationships involve some combinations of 3 key components ...
These three components are: intimacy, passion, and commitment.

Intimacy: closeness & connection, warmth, caring, sharing - known as the WARM component;
Passion: intense feelings of attraction, drawn to someone emotionally & physically - known as the HOT component;
Commitment: cerebral component, deliberate decision to invest in a relationship - known as the COLD component

Unlike the ancient Greeks definition of love, who approached love more philosophically and generally, Sternberg's study focuses on what we might broadly call 'romantic love'.
So in summary, 2 parts heart, 1 part head ... sounds like a fair formula but I'm not sure it explains this ...
