MEANINGFUL TRAVEL | HENRO | PILGRIMAGES IN JAPAN | SHIKOKU88

'Travel is 90% anticipation and 10% recollection' - Edward Streeter
I have always been able to visualise things very clearly. The inner world is something that can scare people. I have known many who like to busy themselves nearly every waking hour rather than have to 'deal' with what is inside their heads. I count myself fortunate that I am very comfortable 'in my own head'.
It is the evening of July 10th, 2024 as I publish this Post ... my last preparatory act before I sleep and then begin my meaningful travel journey tomorrow morning. The 9 month build-up, ironically identical to the human gestation period, has come to an end. It is Henro 'GO' time.

For the next 60 days anticipation will be replaced by 'application'. I will be guided by sign-posts in a foreign language, respond to challenges with my instincts, test my life-skills within a different culture, and rely on the generosity and goodwill of the people of Shikoku, Japan.
In the words of a dear friend, 'what could possibly go wrong'?
I have been asked one question more than any other over the past few months. Why? My answer, 'because it keeps calling me'. Who am I not to listen?
I have learned from my readings, research, and discussions in preparation for becoming a Henro ... walking the pilgrimage is both a physically and spiritually demanding endeavour that provides meaningful personal insights. Much more than a walking holiday.

See, experience, learn, DO ... See, experience, learn, DO ... See, experience, learn, DO;
... in the words of YODA ... 'Do or do not. There is no try' ... see you on the other side!
