So there I was at a business function. Mingling. I am not much of a mingler. Small talk is not a strength. I suddenly felt as though someone was watching me. I looked up and sure enough somebody was, indeed, staring in my direction. I nodded. She smiled. She seemed familiar but I couldn't place a connection.
I turned away and continued to participate in the current conversation that I had been roped into. After a while I looked up again, and once again, she was looking directly at me. This time I smiled. Are we flirting I pondered? And then she began to move towards me. I guess we are about to find out.
And then it happened ...
This stranger from across the room passed on a message.
Hi Steve. I saw you speak recently at a Shared Services Conference. I was going to approach you afterwards but I wasn't sure if I was meant to. Seeing you here now, I know that I am meant to share this with you. I hope you don't think it is too weird. 'Try me', I said confidently (expecting a job offer or an invitation to interview).
'You have lived a past life in Japan', she started. 'You were a Samurai warlord. This life is a life of atonement. You will learn a lot about yourself and you will help others in meaningful ways. Your path will not be easy and much of your path you will travel alone or at odds with your upbringing. You have never fitted, and you do not aspire to fit. Thank you for hearing me out. I apologise if I have offended you or spoken out of turn. Good luck', she ended.
And with that she turned, and glided out of the room.
