With Sophie's fate now in human hands, Little Paws makes the decision to invest in Sophie and give her the best chance of adoption ...

A good Samaritan surgeon is located and Sophie undergoes surgery to clean-out and reconstruct the eye-sockets that have been 'open weeping 'Anophthalmia' * wounds' for the first 12 months of her life.
The surgery appears to be successful and after a short period of convalescence to allow the hair to grow back over the scar tissue, Sophie is placed for adoption on the Little Paws adoption webpage.
Sadly, no serious interest is recorded and Little Paws need to endure a series of 'crank' calls related to Sophie's listing ... no wonder Mark Twain said, 'If man could be crossed with a cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.'
Then one night, late, the narrators daughter came with phone in hand exclaiming, 'you must adopt this cat. She is just down the road and you would be the perfect person to look after a special-needs cat.' (I think it was a compliment) ... the rest is history. Here is footage of our very first contact ... instant connection as though we had known each other forever.
* Anophthalmia - a rare and congenital condition, defined as the complete absence of the eye bulb due to inadequate growth of the vesicle or optic dome at an early stage of pregnancy or due to subsequent failure of the expansion of the optical element.
